I was a tad overwhelmed yesterday.  I won’t go in to details except to say it involves an unhealed ankle incision (3 weeks now), last minute changes to school lesson plans (school starts in 2 weeks) and preparing to leave for the weekend without kids (meaning my SIL and BIL will be staying here).

‘Nough said.

And so the result was, I never got to the computer yesterday… well, except for the two hours I spent trying to figure out the new books I needed to order for my lesson changes. Phew!

So today, can you do two Mr. Linkies, one for yesterday and one for today?  That’s if you have a post for yesterday.  Maybe your day was as hectic and emotionally draining as mine was.  In that case, cut yourself a break and just do today’s.  =0)  Me?  Well, I’m going to try out two lipsticks today.  It just might make my day.

I’ll be baacckkkkk…

Good morning everyone.  I’m rushing out the door to try and nab some Children’s Place Deals (I know, they’ve been around for a week or so now but better late than never!) so go ahead and add your post to good ol Mr. Linky and I’ll be back this afternoon to add my photo.

Still trying to decide which one to try…

Okay so I’m back.  I’m tired ya’ll.  I’m REAL tired.  I have a picture unfortunately to prove it.  I took a nice nap today and everything but it didn’t seem to change much.  I had to soften up my picture just so ya’ll could handle checking out my lipstick.  Apparently, when I’m REAL tired, I start writing with a southern accent…

Anyhoo, WHIPPED BERRIES is the topic at hand.  I do like this color but it is very similar to my regular color range.  So not much of a stretch but pretty none the less.

I blame this picture all on Children’s Place.  The mental strain of trying to remember what sizes I needed in what clothing items, for which child… and the physical workout of battling other moms for the same t-shirts, trying to beat each other to the checkout line (when you start eye-balling each other’s loads of clothing to purchase… well, let’s just say to start making mental notes of who you DON’T want to be behind!) and of course, keeping the continuous line of food and snacks flowing to the four munchkins who are every bit as tired as you are from five straight days of late bedtimes and some missed naps.  It just wasn’t pretty ya’ll (there I go again!).

But I’m headed to bed now so that tomorrow’s lipstick has a fighting chance of being put on a half-way decent face tomorrow.  No lipstick likes having to compete against the dreaded dark bags under the eyeballs that scream for attention.  Although, as a plus, tomorrow is free movie at the theater so maybe I can catch some shut eye during the CareBears movie…?  Ya think??

Hello Ladies, sorry I’m so late with today’s post.  I had to do sign-ups for the kids charter classes and yowzers! Was THAT ever a fiasco!  We got there 20 minutes after they started the sign-ups and two of the classes we wanted were already full!!  So there was much finagling and rearranging going on.  We managed to get one class figured out but I’m still waiting to hear on the second one.  Boy was it a headache when it we had several schedules all dependent on each other.  So to have one of the kids not get their choices…

Okay!  But I’m shaking it all off and marching on here!  LIPSTICKS!  Love ’em!  The one I tried today was definitely stepping out of my comfort zone.  I used Red Salsa.  And it was bad.  Real bad.  So I used Sweet Raisin lip gloss to try to tone it down some.  It did a little but not much.

Pretty bold, ain’t it?!  It was still fun trying it out.  Tiger (3), asked me why my lips were pink.  Um, honey, I don’t think pink is the color… but I knew what he meant.  Interpreted, that means, “Mom, that color is looks crazy weird on you”

How did the rest of you do?

Good morning gals!

My worst fear has been realized…. Hubby has found me out!  He saw my blog posts yesterday and of course he quickly offered to take pictures for me.  He faked some hurt feelings when I turned his offer down.  And my response to his question why was to point to this sentence in my first post: “Right about now I’m just hoping I can figure out how to take a picture of myself so I don’t have to endure Hubby’s tortuous teasing if I have to ask him to take one for me…”

What was his reaction to reading that?  He burst out laughing.  He KNEW I’d totally called it.  And he KNEW he wouldn’t be able to NOT tease me.  Even though he said he wouldn’t.  Uh huh! I know him all right. =0)

So this morning, I took another self-portrait.  Another severely lacking self portrait.  But I’ll stick to those thank you very much, when my alternative includes the life-long torture of a man’s perspective on this very serious challenge.

This morning was Pink Satin with a touch of Pink Diamonds lip gloss.  Love the sparkle.  It’s pretty much a repeat of the previous pink but with a pink top it looks much better.  What do you gals think?

Your turn!

So are we ready for our next stepping-out-of-our-comfort-zone color this morning ladies??  I am.  As soon as I make the rest of myself as ready as my puckerers are for today’s daring new color.

But here’s Mr. Linky for all of you how are on a different time zone or just manage to get dressed and brush your teeth earlier than I do.

I’ll be back…

By the way, I think you all did a fabulous job with not only your colors yesterday but also your self-portraits.  Those suckers aren’t easy to take!

Case in point, my photo for today!! Do I need to even say it’s a horrible picture??  Nah, probably not.   Anyway, today I tried Apple Berry.  I liked it but it was a tad to bright so I toned it down a bit with the Cream and Sugar lip gloss.  I think it toned it down too much since it then looked very close to my usual colors.  So I give myself an “F” today since I didn’t step out of my comfort zone.  Sorry gals.

I’m sure you gals all did MUCH better than me.

It’s here ladies!  Go ahead and post us some loverly photos of yourself trying out a new lipstick today!  Link up anytime during the next 24 hours.  Tomorrow I’ll provide a new post and Mr. Linky so we can keep each lipstick/day separate.

If you don’t have a blog, please send me an email lifessignatures@yahoo.com with your photo(s) and I’ll be sure and add them for you.

We want to see every one of them!  Even if you think they are horrendous!  We’re all stepping out of our comfort zones here so you won’t be alone.

I’ll be back later today to share my first new lip color.  Right about now I’m just hoping I can figure out how to take a picture of myself so I don’t have to endure Hubby’s tortuous teasing if I have to ask him to take one for me…

UPDATE:

Alright ladies (or guys if any of you dare to even lurk), here’s my new lips for today.  I tried Paradise Pink lipstick with Pink Diamonds lip gloss.

Whatcha think?  I have to confess, I tried this the other day.  I just couldn’t help myself.  And I was wearing pink when I did.  I did like it a lot more then than I do today.  I think I’ll end up getting these ones so that I have a pinkier color to go with my pink tops (I’m normally a very neutral lip color wearer).  Here I think I look a tad too eighties… nice and bubblegum pink!

I promise this is the only color I cheated with.  I have no idea what color I’ll be grabing out tomorrow… so be sure to check in.  I’m pretty sure you’re not going to want to miss it.

Lipstick Challenge Day 1

Specifically, a LIPSTICK challenge?  Well, I don’t know about you but in this area I talk a lot of talk but don’t walk it at ALL!  I L.O.V.E. lipsticks… on everyone else but me.  I fall in love with colors left and right but never have the guts to try them myself.  I always use the cop out that “I couldn’t pull it off” or that “it’s just not the right color for me”.  Today, I decided No More!  I am not going to be a lipstick chicken.  I WILL gather the courage necessary to step out of my comfort zone of calm berry/brown tones (that’s what I like to call them anyway) and step into the glorious spotlight of fabulous new lip color!

HOW will I be able to afford such a feat?  Well, I’ll let you in on a little secret… I sell Mary Kay.  I know!  Isn’t that horrible that I can’t get up the nerve to try out my own product colors?  Oh I do use MY color in Mary Kay, just not anything new.  I have a TON of lip color samples.  Why on earth have I not tried them out in the safety of my own home?  I have no reason, just a lot of excuses.  Excuses that stop NOW.  And I’m going to share my experiments with you, my bloggy friends.

Each day, for a week, I will try a brand new, so-outta-my-normal-comfort-zone, lip color.  I will take a picture to share with you via daily posts to get your feedback on which one works and which one doesn’t.  And I will go out in public

BUT, since I’m a bit shy, I don’t want to do this alone.  If I have to, I will.  But I really would rather not.  Please don’t make me.  PLEASE hold my virtual hand and walk with me!  And I’ve devised a plan to convince you to join me.  Bribing always helps, right?

If you decide to join me, first, go visit my Mary Kay website: http://www.marykay.com/jwoodall5/color/lips/viewall/default.aspx (list of what I have is below).  This is NOT to pressure anyone into a sale!  It is simply the easiest way for you to view colors and shades.  Then leave a comment here telling me you’d like to participate and the 7 colors you’d like to try.  (All shades will be on a first come, first serve basis so don’t dilly-dally too long)  Lip Glosses may be added but please only pick 2 lip glosses to add to your 7 lip colors for a total of 9 samples.  Please be sure to leave an email address (it’s kept private) so that I can contact you.   I’ll mail your samples to you and then we wait for August 1st to begin the fun.

I want to hear/see what your results are each day.  Ideally, your own blog is the best format for sharing.  But if you don’t have one and would still like to participate, you can leave your comments on my daily lipstick posts.

Anyone willing to not only participate but also link up with me on their blog via a button will be entered into a drawing for a free Mary Kay lipstick of their choice.  I hope it’ll be a new color but doesn’t have to be.

Rachel!!  You’re the proud new owner of six spiders and their webs! =0)

Just so you know, the way I picked a winner was I counted up the commenters (not counting my sister, sorry Sis!) and then had my daughter pick a number between 1 and 6.  She picked 3.

Congrats Rachel.  I’m sure you’ll provide a great home for these spiders.  But I will have to have you fill out a form for us to review and make sure you can adequately provide for them before we send them off.

Just kidding!!

I don’t know about you, but Spiderman, tho he has yet to be watched on tv or in a movie at our house, reigns supreme in the world of our boys’ super heros.  Monkey picked him as his 5th birthday party theme this year.  What works for me?  Simple, simple, simple parties.  So I thought I’d share my Spiderman party tips because I have a sneaky feeling that I’m not alone when it comes to him being a desired kids’ party theme…

*** Give away at the end of this post ***

Decorations: I bought some black curling ribbon, the kind that comes on a really big “spool” for 99 cents and made webs out of it.  A bit difficult to write out the how-to but if you’d like the details, let me know and I’ll post it or send you and email with directions.  Then I used black pipe cleaners to make nice big spiders to put on the webs.  In hindsight, I wish I’d bought red and blue pipe cleaners instead since the black spiders disappeared in the black webs.  Plus, the spider that bite Peter Parker was red and blue not black. Oh well!  I stuck these up all around the house and that was it.  Simple, cheap and easy!

Games.  Most of my kids were born during hot months.  So I don’t get to rent a bouncy house and call it a day.  Nope.  All activities, unless they involve water, must be done inside.  And 10 kids running wild in a house is a bit much for adults to take.  So games, no matter how simple the party, are a necessity.  Not extravagant games remember… simple

Web Walk: like a cake walk except not. lol.  I took black, red and blue construction paper, drew spider webs on them with crayon and a number.  Since we were going to have 10 kids altogether, I did 1 through 5 twice.  Play music as the kids walk around from web to web.  When the music stops, a grown-up picked a number out of a hat and whoever was on that number (there would be two kids since that each number was done twice) would get to pick a candy or a coloring book.  (I bought 10 coloring books from the dollar store… a little pricey since there were 10 to buy but as a parent, I just have a hard time handing nothing but candy out…party pooper aren’t I?!) Repeat the music playing and number picking enough times so that everyone gets to pick a goodie a couple times.

(Sorry, this picture was taken after the party and all but these three had disappeared)

Pin the Spider on the Web: Bought a red poster board for $1 and drew a black web on it.  Drew 10 red and blue spiders (like the one that bit Peter Parker), one for each child with their name written on it and looped scotch tape on the back.  Blindfold each child and let them try to get the spider on the web.  The spider closest to the center wins.

Some of the “spiders” went home with the kids.  So there are white spots from tape on the spiders that left.)

Craft:  Again, because the party was all indoors I added a very simple craft for the kids to do.  I bought a pack of black pipe cleaners and a bag of assorted colored fuzzy balls and let the kids make spiders out of them.  I put all the parts to the spider in a brown paper lunch bag and labeled one for each child.  I wanted to eliminate any arguing over body colors.  What they had in their bag is what they got.  I also had some googly eyes on hand that I threw in there.  I precut each pipe cleaner in half and each bag got four (1/2) pipe cleaners to make 8 legs.  Grown-ups had to help twist the pipe cleaners together but then each child could bend the legs into knees and feet.  A little glue for the body to the center of the leg twist and a couple dots of glue for the eyes and Voila!  Spiders for everyone to take home.  I flattened each personalized paper bag and set the cooresponding spider on top of each one to dry.  That way there was no confusion as to who’s spider was who’s at the end of the party.

Food:  I’m not going to tell you what to fix, only to be sure and keep it simple.  Monkey wanted pizza so I bought a few grocery store pizzas (much cheaper and we found a store chain that actually makes pretty good pizzas).  We also had two Spiderman buckets (bought after halloween on clearance) that I lined with paper towels and filled with chips.  We also had baby carrots, watermelon and cantelope.  I made up some cherry flavored Cool Aid (made with half Splenda and half regular sugar) and labeled the pitcher “Spider Venom”.   That was it.  And it was plenty.

Cake:  Again, simple folks!  I made up a couple boxes of cake mix and baked them (they always end up being pretty thin after leveling off the tops.  I made two rounds with one mix and a thicker round with a second mix).  Whipped up some icing.  This one is a favorite of mine, minus the nuts and the sheet cake this time.  Stick the layers together with some of the icing (or you can use any flavor of jam/jelly) and then ice the rest of the cake.  I made some simple powdered sugar icing (powdered sugar with a few tablespoons of milk), made nice and thick.  I put it in a ziplock baggie and snipped off a corner to make a piping bag.  I used this icing to “draw” a spider web on the cake.  Hubby had bought a small spiderman figure and a few Iron Man bad guy figures (we couldn’t get ahold of any Spiderman bad guys.  But since my kids haven’t ever watched Spiderman, they didn’t know the difference).  I used some white thread to tie up the bad guys and attach them to Spiderman’s hand.  Here’s the finished cake:

It was a hit.  At the end of the party, we put the coloring books, craft spiders and goody bags (Spiderman stickers, web shooters and candy) all in the paper lunch bags to go home with the kids.

*** GIVEAWAY*** I’m giving away the 6 black spiders and 6 webs of various sizes that I used for decorating the walls/ceilings with.  If you are interested in them, just leave a comment below and you’ll be entered into the drawing.  The winner will be randomly drawn Friday evening (July 11th).  Please be sure to leave a way to get in touch with you; either your blog name or an email address.  If I don’t hear from you within 3 days of the drawing, a new winner will be drawn.

In the meantime, be sure to check out Rocks In My Dryer for great tips, advice and ideas.

I didn’t mention it before but some of you noticed anyway.  About a week and a half ago I won one of the WOW Hits packages over at Rocks In My Dryer.  To say I was excited was putting it mildly.  I never, and I mean NEVER win anything.  Did you count them?  Let me save you the trouble, because it’ll take you a while to do it… 18.  Hear that?  18 christian music cds!  Can I tell you what an answer to prayer this was?  I was bemoaning to God a while back about how behind I was in my christian music and how I really would love some fresh cds.  My b-day is coming up and my thought was, ask for them as gifts.  But I love how God worked it out instead.  His plan was much better.  As always…

Now you’ll have to excuse me.  I have some music to listen to and lyrics to read.  Don’t worry, you’ll hear about some of my favs.  I already listened to the WOW Hits cd and highly recommend it.  I love each and every one of those songs.  No exaggeration.  And what’s cool is they include the background behind each of these popular songs.  If you want more info on the cd, just click on image in my sidebar.

Thank you, thank you Shannon and WOW!
